Science Ventures takes a rather different approach
to the creation and launching of licence deals and new spin out
companies than you are likely used to.
Many investors commonly complain that research-based
'Commercialisation' activities are generally chaotic and that the
deals are simply to slow and too poorly contracted for, particularly
in terms of intellectual property control. Also that universities
and research institutes often have unrealistic commercial expectations,
do not really know the due diligence processes involved and are
consumed by internal politics and turf wars.
Science Ventures is a specialist technology management
company that deeply understands both the research institution dynamics
and decision-making processes and the business processes at play
- the founders having themselves spent fours years within the University
of Glasgow and having launched a series of top quality deals (see
track record on the home page.)
Our experience allows us to coordinate all of
the required partners in delivering top quality, clean and fast
deals - thereby reducing the investor's risk.
We are not a Venture Capital company - we are
instead exclusively a Commercialisation Management company operating
in both the Physical Science and Life-science areas.
We do spend our own time and up to £500k
maximum in systematically shaping raw ideas into well structured
business opportunities - including full Business Planning, producing
first technology demonstrators and assembling top quality Management
Teams.
When these opportunities are then ready for Series
A funding, typically the £2m - £10m level, we support
the Management Teams of these new ventures to attract the required
funding; and at that time we leave the project in the capable hands
of the Management Teams and the Investors.
Obviously having built up a strong international
network over the years we already work with a selection of tried
and tested investors. However with an ever increasing project list
